This is an initiative developed by the organization to continuously bridge the gap of IT and Education in Cameroon. This initiative has been put in place to ease the work load of teachers and to better prepare the students for their examinations.
The strategy opens a new era to education and has also been made user friendly and more importantly, embraces the obstacles faced by most teachers in using computers and related equipments. With the help of our Learnthings partner in South Africa, a digital curriculum is put at the disposal of all the teachers in our pilot schools to set students on competitive scale and also learn with the use of computers. So far, about 10.000 students use this software in the South West Province of Cameroon.
The Pentium IV computer sets are installed with operating system, working office environment, an anti-virus and other useful programs. Highlighting the difficulties faced in using the machines, an IT instructor is placed at the disposal of all teachers who need help in basic computer manipulations and how to prepare their lectures as well as type their exams. This initiative has as target, some 60 000 government secondary and high school teachers in the national territory. Acquisition of machines is done with the compliance of the school administration.
Teachers compensate ADCOME on purchases of equipments only, and the rest of the applications are done free. With our MTN-SCP stakeholders, we seek to cover the national territory with this program by April 2009.
